At myflightsearch.com, we aim to make your flight cancellation or adjustment process as clear and straightforward as possible. As an independent travel agency, all flight reservations, cancellations, date changes, and refunds are strictly governed by the specific rules, ticket classes, and Contracts of Carriage enforced by the respective operating airline carriers.
1. The 24-Hour Cancellation Regulation
Under federal aviation rules in the United States, passengers booking flights departing from or arriving in the US are eligible to void their reservation and receive a full refund without penalty, provided that:
- The ticket cancellation request is initiated within 24 hours of purchase.
- The flight booking was made at least seven (7) days prior to flight departure.
To void a ticket within this 24-hour window, contact our customer service desk immediately to prevent the GDS network from permanently settling the fare invoice.
2. Ticket Classes and Fare Rules
Beyond the 24-hour window, refund options depend entirely on the class of service and fare brand purchased:
Basic Economy tickets do not allow voluntary cancellations, refunds, or date changes. Once issued, seats are locked.
Cancellations typically yield airline flight credits (valid for 1 year) minus airline-imposed change/penalty fees.
Fully eligible for credit card cash refunds. Subject only to specific ticketing processing cycles.
3. Refund Processing Timelines
Voluntary cancellation refunds (upon confirmation of eligibility by the airline) take time to process through banking networks:
- Consolidation voids: Submissions process within 24-48 hours.
- Credit Card Posting: Bank issuers typically take 7 to 10 business days to post the credit to your statement.
- Cash/Check purchases: Dispatched via check or wire within 14 business days.
4. Airline-Initiated Cancellations & Delays
If an airline cancels a route, changes schedules, or delays a flight significantly due to weather or mechanical problems, you are entitled to:
- Rebooking on the next available flight to your destination at no additional charge.
- An airline travel voucher or full ticket refund depending on the specific airline's Contract of Carriage policies.
We will coordinate directly with the airline on your behalf to secure the best available re-routing or refund options.
5. Agency Administrative Fees
Please note that MyFlightSearch may charge a nominal administrative fee (typically ranging from $30 to $50 per ticket) to process cancellations, date modifications, or manual refund filings. This fee covers GDS desk overhead and processing operations and is disclosed prior to transaction finalization.
